Ronan O’Connor, APS Pro Cycling by Team Cadence Cyclery, delivered a superb 2026 season marked by consistent near-podium finishes at home and a standout general classification performance abroad.
At 23 the young APS rider combined domestic reliability with a memorable week in Romania that underlined his growing maturity and attacking instinct.

Key Results and Consistency
O’Connor’s 2026 results list shows a rider who repeatedly finished among the strongest on the day:
- 2nd – Tour of Romania Stage 2
- 5th – Tour of Romania GC
- 2nd – Seán Nolan Meath Grand Prix
- 2nd – Alan Towell Memorial
- 2nd – Lucan Grand Prix
- 6th – Shay Elliott Memorial
- 7th – National Road Race Championships
- 7th – McGinty Autumn Classic
These performances produced a solid points return and 14th place on the final C1 rankings.
Another rider not far from the top step on several occasions this season. Yet the placings themselves highlight a rider who is always in contention and maximises his opportunities through sharp positioning and well-timed aggression.
Race Craft and the Tour of Romania Highlight
The clear high point of the year came at the Tour of Romania. On Stage 2, his 23rd birthday, O’Connor produced a gutsy move from the break that carried him to second on the stage and second overall.
The following day, backed by his APS teammates, he attacked again on the first mountain stage and came agonisingly close to the leader’s jersey, finishing just two seconds off the top of the standings after Stage 3.
He ultimately settled for a highly creditable fifth on general classification in Bucharest.

That week showcased both his willingness to take the race on and the support he received from the team. It was the kind of performance that announces a rider’s arrival at Continental level.

Closer to home the pattern was similar. At the Seán Nolan Meath Grand Prix he found himself in the decisive late move with Ronan Killeen and Killian O’Brien, only to be edged into second on the line after a hard, day at full-gas.

It was all go all day. Nothing really stuck so full gas racing really… Yeah, tough, tough, tough day.

Earlier second places at the Alan Towell Memorial and Lucan Grand Prix further illustrated the consistency.
His seventh place at the Irish Men’s Elite National Road Race Championships was particularly impressive. O’Connor spent the day in the winning break and still had enough left to contest the finish just behind some of Ireland’s top pro riders, underlining the depth of his form mid-season.

From covering over 50 racedays this season with Irish Cycling Hub, in the bigger C1 events any one of five or ten riders can raise the hands on any given day such is the standard across Irish racing. O’Connor belongs firmly in that group of contenders.
His thoughtful nature was evident after the Meath race when he took time to offer condolences to the O’Brien family following the tragic passing of Shane O’Brien, younger brother of Liam O’Brien, just days earlier.
Those sentiments were shared by the entire peloton, who rode with small black ribbons attached to their jerseys as a mark of respect.
Looking Ahead to 2027
A season of high-level consistency, multiple domestic near-wins and a strong international GC result leaves O’Connor well placed for further progress next year.

The attacking mindset, the ability to finish close to the front week after week, and the experience gained in Romania all point to a rider ready to convert those near-misses into victories.
