John Buller’s 2026 Season: Ranked 15th – Speed, Positioning & Podiums

John Buller, Banbridge CC, proved throughout 2026 that class, economy of effort and an almost instinctive ability to be in the right place at the right time continue to serve him well on the Irish domestic racing scene.

At 27 the former National Criterium Champion continues to race with the same sharp positioning and finishing speed that he has become known for. Always going to be at the pointy end of races and a genuine contender right to the line.

Key Results and Consistency

Buller’s 2026 racing calender delivered both a victory and a series of high-value placings that underlined his consistency:

  • 1st – Waller Cup
  • 2nd – National Criterium Championships
  • 3rd – Sean Lynch Memorial
  • 4th – Wilson Nesbitt Glendale GP
  • 5th – Noel Teggart Memorial
  • 5th – Alan Towell Memorial
  • 6th – Coombes Connor Memorial
  • 6th – John Haldane Memorial
  • 7th – Rás Mumhan Stage 4

These performances delivered the solid points tally and 15th place on the final C1 rankings.

A little more fortune on a handful of days and the win column would almost certainly have grown further.

Yet the results he did pull off reveal a rider who always shows up ready to race and maximises every opportunity through really smart positioning rather than pure power alone.

Race Craft, Speed and Positioning

On the flatter, hard races, Buller remains one of the quickest and most economical riders on the scene. His second place at the National Criterium Championships in Dublin illustrated the point perfectly.

Marked as one of the favourites and under early pressure, he still made the decisive early move, recovered from a mid-race tumble on the wet cobbles, and monitored the most dangerous attacks right to the finish.

Only a late surge from James Jenkins denied him a third national criterium title, yet the silver medal confirmed the form was exactly where it needed to be.

the bunch once again was unbelievable – everyone showed up today.

A fortnight earlier a strong weekend in Louth and Antrim produced third at the Seán Lynch Memorial and fourth the following day at the Wilson Nesbitt Glendale GP. Both races were fast, ‘honest’, and in windy conditions.

Home roads at the Noel Teggart Memorial brought another top-five. When the race stayed together longer than expected he still found the legs to bridge across late and contest the finish, underlining once more the quiet efficiency that has become his trademark.

Earlier in the spring the Waller Cup provided the season’s top podium result. On a demanding Meath circuit Buller timed his effort perfectly to take the C1 victory, showing the same sharp finishing speed that once carried him to national titles and a Stage 5 podium on the 2025 Rás Tailteann.

Looking Ahead to 2027

A season of selective excellence, a C1 win, National Championship Silver and a string of podiums leaves Buller perfectly placed for another strong campaign next year.

The honest hard racing style, the economy of effort and the almost instinctive positioning remain intact.

Continue in this vein and more top-step visits are surely simply a matter of time.
